I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and seem unable to leave. I’ve lived in Southeast Asia and toured around the US and yet I find myself drawn back to this place time after time.
Through a series of bizarre events involving a small pickup truck & two couches, a street fight, hamburgers, bad diner coffee and a beautiful little jazz quartet, I met my wife Becky. At least, those are the moments we both remember.
I love creating. Photography, music, spicy foods, words scrawled across old journals, stories told long into the night. Setting the imagination loose and fueling it with a little coffee every now and again. Stories that reach deep and grab pieces of us. This is what I love.
I had the pleasure of working with local Cincinnati band Shun The Lookout a couple weeks ago. We took a trip down to the warehouse to shoot these.
It’s such a blast to be able to work with young musicians who love doing what they do as much as I love what I get to do.

February 24 2010Food PhotosI love cooking so it makes sense that I would enjoy shooting food photographs as well. I’ve been pondering different ways to shoot food. Most food photos are so typical and boring. What goes into the cooking, how does it get from A-B, what would happen if something went wrong? How else can we tell the story of what’s inside of dinner? I don’t have answers yet but I’m working on it.
For now, here are some fairly typical food photos + the results.
Goat Cheese rolled in ground green peppercorns, mixed with diced green onion, folded into organic beef from Harvest Hill Farms. Grill that sucker and top it with roasted yellow peppers & some sautéed baby portabella’s. Then top it with a hint of curry powder.
This is why I love cooking, and photographing food. It’s not only beautiful to the eyes, but to the stomach as well.
PS The only thing in this not local & organic is the goat cheese.
PPS This wasn’t from a local restaurant. This was lunch for the wife & I.
Enjoy.
Some music photos to come tomorrow…
